halley44 leaving two plus two

As things appear at the time of this article, the online poker forum Two Plus Two has lost crucial helping hands in the battle for information in the Ultimate Bet scandal. In the course of the day, conversations between Mason and Halley44 have proven volatile and explosive. At this point, it appears Halley44 has left the 2+2 community, indefinitely.
As the conversations progressed throughout the day, evidence of mutually negative feelings prior to today surfaced. This laid one part of the foundation of the misunderstanding. Another contributing factor was physical exhaustion. Halley had been up working on a laptop overnight prior to the sharp tongued post that triggered the public hostilities. The events directly involved with today’s explosion appear to be a simple misunderstanding of each other.
There has been significant discussion around the remote possibility that Paul Leggett will appear in a structured format to answer hard questions. Some of the discussions have included the potential possibility of a Podcast style interview for the 2+2 community. The questions for this format would be drawn from those who are most aware of the Ultimate Bet situation. Naturally, this would include Halley. This morning, when she looked at the forum regarding the issue, she stumbled across a post that indicated beyond doubt that she would write the questions for this. The presumptive statement was made by Mason, someone who had blown off questions about the scandal months prior. This set Halley into a tailspin. Her thinking was essentially this: How could I be expected to write questions when I was unknown just months before when I wanted to ask the questions? Everything spiraled downhill from there.
Initially, Mason was under the impression that Halley’s slight and temper was related to a previous discussion that included a book review website. Being the policy of the forum not to release books for free, he did not provide any for her. This was not the motivation for her slight. Her motivation stemmed from a conversation after this, in which she contacted him regarding a blackmail threat made via the forum. The threat was a portion of the Ultimate Bet scandal and cheating cover up. Mason responded to that request stating he didn’t know her. This was last November, when Halley’s investigation had already begun yielding very public results, and thus she found this offensive. Mason’s tone could have been easily misunderstood in the manner Halley did, however it is also possible that due to his natural mannerisms it was not intended as it came across.
The unfortunate result of this very public argument is that Halley44 has stated she will no longer participate in the Two Plus Two community. Many players believe this to be a loss for the forum and for the poker players still looking for answers in the Ultimate Bet Cheating Scam.

Durrrr Challenge Questions Uncovered

Durrrr Challenge Questions Uncovered
In the thread about the Full Tilt Poker Challenge Durrrr promotion, it was cited, the original winner and qualifier of the tournament was disqualified. Svetamillion battled her way through each challenge and won the opportunity to compete against Tom Dwan in a heads up match up for 1.5 million dollars. The same money was then promised to the Japan relief effort if Tom won the competition against Svetamillion. The day before the event, a new player was named to compete in place of Svetamillion. She was replaced by the runner up, inorej.
On the 27th, the competition played out as expected. Tom won the 1.5 million for Japan relief effort. From the opening hand, it was clear this was a mismatched major event. Inorej won not one of the four rounds of play and Tom Dwan had a walk in the park with this competition. This leaves open the question, what happened to Svetamillion?
It appears that Svetamillion is a Russian poker woman who was competing in her first major event. Full Tilt Poker investigated her play and format and believed they had caught her playing with multiple accounts at the same events. A few days ago, on PokerStrategy Forum’s Russian section, this post was made: (translated from Russian by an auto translator)
“I was banned and my money was confiscated. FTP security told me that their analysis has shown I was using two accounts. Me and another nickname were mostly playing 6 and 9 player SNGs.”
She was then asked by other forum posters about the second account and if there was any reason for the stance taken by the online poker room, and she responded:
“That nickname is my acquaintance, he was teaching me how to play… that’s why the similarities in our game… personally I was using only one account.”
Operating on the assumption that this is, in fact, the woman who should have competed against Durrrr in the heads up match up, it answers the questions – Why was she disqualified? and What happened to Svetamillions?

Ernest Scherer to be sentenced in the case of his parent’s death

Ernest Scherer to be sentenced in the case of his parent’s death
In 2008, a little known poker player came into the spotlight when his parents were brutally murdered in their Oakland, Ca home. Ernest Scherer the Third was the first suspect in the case and ultimately has been convicted of their murders. It is the stand of the prosecution that his time as a professional poker player, albeit a poor one, stands to explain why he killed his parents. Should his parents have passed of natural causes, he stood to inherit more than 1.5 million dollars.
After months of testimony, the facts in the case are still not concrete, but there is enough circumstantial evidence for a jury to convict. Through the investigation, it came out that the defendant’s car was in the area just before the murders. Also brought out during the trial was a warranty for a baseball bat similar to the one used in the death of his parents. This combined with a stop at a McDonalds and Chevron near the border with Nevada near where the bat could have been purchased continued to build the case against him. Evidence continued to stack up but came against a very crucial piece that pointed to a separate party. A blood stained shoe print from the crime scene did not have DNA from Ernest Scherer III. The defense attorney held onto this and similar evidence that kept put his client some place besides the crime scene at the time of the murder.
Currently, Ernest Scherer II is awaiting sentencing on May 20th.

Ultimate Bet and Absolute Poker Scandal Part 2 – The Beginning

Ultimate Bet and Absolute Poker Scandal Part 2- The Beginning

A few days ago, we talked about the scandal that has rocked Absolute Poker and Ultimate Bet Poker over the past four years. Today, we are going to discuss the beginning of the end for the credibility of both poker rooms. Things began in August 2007, with the player POTRIPPER- who was the winner of Absolute Poker’s weekly $1,000 buy in tournament. Most players wouldn’t think twice about his win. However, many of his hands were played in preflop, while playing almost flawlessly after one was made was the first sign that something wasn’t right. Opponents also noticed that if they had a particularly strong hand, that he would fold, but on the other hand, he always knew when another player was bluffing and he would raise the stakes just a little more.

This play did not settle well with opponent Marco Johnson. Suspicious of the play, he contacted Absolute Poker and requested an investigation of the play, along with POTRIPPER’s tournament hand history. Absolute contacted him and promised that they would investigate the hands. However, they stated that there was nothing suspicious going on with POTRIPPER’s play and Johnson moved on.

The following month came with a forum post that was featured on the 2+2 high stakes thread, stating that there was a possibility of suspicious play in the $150/$300 limit games at Absolute which involved players STEAMROLLER, GREYCAT and DOUBLEDRAG. At first, each player looked like they were on a losing streak to the average player. However, they used this strategy to crush each of their opponents. After analyzing each of their hands, the forum members discovered that most of them were played in preflop in the beginning and would end with an aggressive post-flop. Members discovered that whenever an opponent bluffed, either were called down lightly or forced to fold after an astonishing raise during every game played. Forum members of the 2+2 message board realized that something fishy was definitely going on at Absolute Poker, and that the owners were possibly covering up the evidence to save face.
