Claudia Barilla
Claudia Barilla, is a model and mother of two wonderful children. Her common law husband is Guy Laliberte, and he is the father of their two children. They have been together for several years now, and she maintains her ability to work, and maintains her ability to care for her family. This dedicated common law wife and mother works hard to take care of her family and herself. Both deserve great accolades. That’s not all this busy woman does.

She is also a member of the One Drop foundation’s board of directors. As the charitable foundation is associated with the Cirque Du Soliel, Guy Laliberte is the founding president, and his wife sits on the board. The goal of the foundation is to be a support and assist for at risk youth, worldwide. This foundation helps to encourage children to make healthier decisions though the use of the circus arts. Children are able to generate greater confidence and learn how to improve their personal situations. The board members, including Claudia Barilla, are active participants in the successes.
With all that Claudia has going on in her life, you would think there is room for nothing more. Unfortunately it appears she is becoming part of one of the biggest lawsuits in the history of Canadian Law. Guy Laliberte’s former common law wife is suing him for spousal support. With Claudia being the most current common law wife, there is much controversy surrounding this situation. This suit for spousal support is the first challenge to the constitutionally establish law regarding this matter. According to the law, in the advent of a common law marriage dissolution, the spouse making the greater income is responsible for child support and child care expenses. They are not responsible for spousal support. Laliberte has been quoted as stating that he does not believe in marriage, thus he never married either of his common law wives. Subsequent to this, his first common law wife was with him 10 years, which were not spent honing her craft as a model; instead it was spent enjoying her time with her husband and children. By the time they split she was reaching the top age for models and is no longer able to support herself in that profession. This leaves her in the position of having to pursue spousal support in the effort to assure she will be able to maintain the lifestyle she has become accustomed to with her children. Claudia Barilla is no doubt taking notes, even if only silently.
The unfortunate situation will bring great stress around the Barilla – Laliberte home. With months and perhaps years to go in this case, and a gag order applied, there will be much to watch, and pray the children of these families are not negatively affected by this public situation.
